WOLCOTT FLATS // CHICAGO, IL // 2015
DIGGING DEEP
An L-shaped plan navigates a quirky triangular site for this three-flat condo building in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. Each unit features a unique outdoor experience – an excavated yard space for the below-grade lower unit, a walk-out terrace for the middle unit, and a private roof terrace at the top. One leg of each level serves as an open living loft, with private bedrooms and baths at the other end. Brick and fiber cement, common materials in the neighborhood, are deployed to create a clean, contemporary façade.
